McAllen Public Library hosts the South Texas International Book Festival on Saturday, Oct. 24, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The library says festival day is free and open to the public.

The schedule is set up by age, so a family can split up and meet back up afterward. Here are some of the sessions; the library's schedule has the full list.

Children: Chris Barton reads at 11:30 a.m., Saadia Faruqi reads at 1:30 p.m., and illustrator Shauna J. Grant leads a sketch session at 3:30 p.m., all in the Children's Department.

Tweens: Saadia Faruqi and Varian Johnson talk about their Marvel and DC books at noon in Meeting Room A.

Teens: Huda Fahmy speaks at 1 p.m. in the Teen Department.

Adults: Reyna Grande talks about Migrant Heart at 1:30 p.m., and Katherine Center talks about The Shippers at 3:30 p.m. Both are in the auditorium.

The library says young readers can receive a free book on festival day. Authors sign books throughout the day, and books are for sale on site.

Parking tip: Parking in the library lot is free and first come, first served, and the library recommends arriving early. Use the lot off Nolana Avenue and 23rd Street or the one off Orchid Avenue and 23rd Street.
