About The 956 Rundown |
Who we are, what you get, and how we check every listing, event and guide. |
The 956 Rundown is a free newsletter and website for the Rio Grande Valley: where to eat, what's happening this weekend, and the local businesses worth knowing, from Brownsville to McAllen and every town in between. It's published by Reyes Castillo Jr. in San Benito, Texas. Reyes is a writer, a coach and a pastor here in the Valley, and he signs every issue himself.
What you get
How we check what we publish Every address, phone number, date, time and price comes from a source we can name: the business's or organizer's own website, its Google business profile, or a public record like a Texas state license. When we can't confirm a detail, we say so in plain words ("date not yet confirmed") instead of guessing. Hours appear only where a business publishes them. Our restaurant guides list local, independent places. Nobody pays to be in them.
Partners and ads Some local businesses support The 956 Rundown. When a business pays to be featured, we label it "From our partner." Being featured is not a guarantee of a business's products or services. We never sell our readers' email addresses.
Corrections If we get something wrong, we fix it and add a dated note at the bottom of the page, like "Corrected Oct. 8: the start time is 10 a.m." We don't change things quietly. Spotted a mistake? Reply to any issue of the newsletter, and it reaches Reyes.
