Two Valley hospital systems have cut the price of a screening mammogram through Saturday, Oct. 31, for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

South Texas Health System: $100 and $155

A 2D mammogram is $100 and a 3D mammogram is $155 at South Texas Health System this month. Both prices include the radiologist's reading. A bone density screening is $160.

If your insurance doesn't cover the screening, bring the coupon from the system's Think Pink page to get the October price. If it does, bring your doctor's referral and the hospital bills your plan.

Pre-registration starts with an online form on the same page, and the system says a representative calls within 48 hours to finish. Walk-ins are accepted. For questions, including which location does the screening, call (956) 388-2190.

Mammo Mondays, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

On three Mondays this month, staff are on hand to explain the screening options and schedule your appointment.

Monday, Oct. 12: South Texas Health System Edinburg, 1102 W. Trenton Road, Edinburg

Monday, Oct. 19: South Texas Health System McAllen, 301 W. Expressway 83, McAllen

Monday, Oct. 26: South Texas Health System ER Mission, 900 E. Expressway, Mission

DHR Health: $99

DHR Health announced a $99 screening mammogram from Oct. 1 through Oct. 31 at its McAllen, Edinburg, Weslaco and Brownsville locations. The announcement says it's for women 40 and older with no symptoms, with a referral from a health care provider, and gives (956) 362-7503 to schedule.

These details come from DHR Health's announcement as printed by Texas Border Business. We didn't find the special on DHR's own website, so confirm the price and what to bring when you call.

If you live in Harlingen or San Benito

We couldn't confirm an October price in Harlingen or San Benito. The closest towns on this list are Weslaco and Brownsville, both through DHR Health. When we confirm a closer one, we'll add it here.

One tip before you go: call first and ask which price applies to you and what to bring. The coupon and the referral are for two different situations, and the phone call sorts it out in a minute.

If someone you love has been putting this off, forward this to her.
