Food Bank RGV Unveils State-of-the-Art Cooler and Freezer Facility |
New facility doubles storage capacity, enhancing fresh food distribution across the Rio Grande Valley |
The Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley has inaugurated a cutting-edge cooler and freezer facility, significantly boosting its ability to store and distribute fresh produce and perishable items.
This expansion allows the organization to store nearly three and a half trailer loads of produce in the cooler and up to 20 truckloads of products in the freezer, effectively doubling its previous capacity.
As a result, families in Hidalgo, Cameron, and Willacy counties will have increased access to nutritious options, reducing the difficult choices between groceries and other essentials.
Fresh food's perishability demands prompt and proper storage.
With this new facility, the Food Bank can rescue more food, expedite its distribution, and reach a broader segment of the community.
The project, costing over $6 million, was made possible through grants and generous community donations.
It stands as a testament to the Valley's collective commitment to combating hunger.
Serving nearly 94,000 individuals weekly, this facility is more than just a building; it's a beacon of hope, ensuring that good news continues to thrive in our community. |
