Here are five local McAllen spots for a slow weekend morning, with the hours you need before you go.
🥐 Maison Stivalet
A family-owned French bakery and café on North 10th Street. The brunch and lunch menu rotates, so check the online menu for what's on this week, and save room for something from the pastry case.

🌱 Maria Cruz Plant Based Cuisine
Downtown on South 16th Street, every plate here is made from plants. Their own promise: "We guarantee you won't even know your entire plate is made 100% with plants."

Third-generation bakers, veteran and woman operated. Come for the conchas and café de olla, and come early: breakfast tacos run until 11:30 a.m. and the kitchen closes at 3 p.m.

Downtown on Main Street, with garden-inspired decor and a menu known for crepes and French toast. It's open late Thursday through Saturday too, so brunch can turn into dinner.
